Founded in August 1966, this hospital was initially named as Chung Shan Medical Junior College Hospital. Upon the reorganization of the college to be a medical college in 1977, this hospital was renamed as Chung Shan Medical College Hospital and subsequently in August 2001, was approved to become Chung Shan Medical University Hospital.

Ever since the Da-Ching General Hospital was opened on November 12, 1998, this hospital organization is able to provide a comprehensive medical network with a head district (Da-Ching District) and two affiliated districts (Wen-Hsin District, and Chung-Sing District).

Each branch has its own specialties. Da-Ching General Hospital District specializes in pulmonary disease and prevention, heart disease and prevention, cancer disease and prevention, AIDS and prevention, burns & scalds therapy, gamma knife surgery, positron emission tomography, PACS and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, pediatric disease, gynecologic & obstetric disease, infertility, genetic consultation, plastic surgery and complete physical examination followed by regular check-ups. Wen-Hsin District specializes in stomatology and related discipline. Chung-Hsing District specializes in Hospice, rehabilitation and dialysis.
