Autologous dendritic cell (DC) therapy to treat 8 types of cancers

1. On May 15, 2019, CMUH was approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to use dendritic cell (DC) therapy to target 8 different types of “stage IV solid tumors”, including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and secondary brain tumors (metastatic brain tumors), epithelial ovarian tumors, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, head and neck cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer.
2. CMUH has conducted research in cell therapy for more than 10 years and is working with Ever Supreme Bio Technology Co., Ltd., to establish a GTP Core Cell Laboratory that meets the Human Cell Therapy Clinical Trial specifications.
3. A new hope for cancer treatment, patients receiving dendritic cell therapy do not have many adverse reactions or significant side effects.

Autologous  bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC)

1. CMUH state-of-the-art regenerative medicine technology offers a new realm of treatment for chronic diseases, including chronic ischemic stroke and degenerative joint disease.
2. For chronic ischemic stroke, CMUH uses their patented culture medium to successfully increase the growth content of “IGF1R+ mesenchymal stem cells”, which promote the regeneration of cranial nerves.
3. For degenerative joint disease, a total of 100 million autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are injected into the joint space over a span of 2 sessions, which enhance the regenerative capabilities of joint cartilage.

Looking back at the history of organ transplantation, we have quite some achievements to be proud of: the first living donor kidney transplantation in 1992, the first single lung transplantation in November 2001 (in central Taiwan) and the first heart transplant surgery in November 2011. Then we recruited Dr. Long-Bin Jeng, one of the leading surgeons in liver transplantation in August 2002, and successfully performed the first living donor liver transplantation in September 2002. We completed the first living donor liver and kidney transplantation ever across the globe in November 2006. So far over 1,000 living donor liver transplantation have been successfully completed. Apart from treating patients with hepatic coma patients or critical conditions, our living donor liver transplantation are well known for this surgical techniques and postoperative management.

So far, we have completed over 1,000 cases of living donor liver transplantation, with over 80% rate of survival, and brought much happiness and joy to families of surviving recipient.

Compared with the traditional keratoplasty, the DSAEK (Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty) has the advantage of low rejection rate, fast eyesight restoration, small surgical wounds and high survival rate of the cornea. Our hospital has conducted most surgeries in Taiwan and has introduced innovative operations suitable for Asian people’s eyes. The success rates of surgery reach 100% and the facility was awarded with Symbol of National Quality in 2015.
